- Mutual Respect: Treat all people with respect and consideration. What feels comfortable to you may not feel comfortable to others.
- Dance Roles: Dance roles are not defined by gender. Everyone chooses the role they prefer: leader, follower, or switch.
- Care and Consent: Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. Keep your movements within a safe space and pay close attention to the verbal and non-verbal communication of the person you are dancing with. Make sure they feel comfortable at all times, especially with connections such as close embrace and movements like dips or aerials.
- No Means No: It is perfectly fine to decline a dance invitation. Accept a “no” graciously and without insisting.
- Harassment and Inappropriate Behaviour: Harassment and any kind of behaviour deemed inappropriate or that makes people in the community uncomfortable will not be tolerated. If you experience or witness any such situation, contact the organising team immediately.
- Inclusive Environment: We foster an inclusive environment where all people, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, religion, or ability, feel welcome.
- Personal Responsibility: Each participant is responsible for their own health and wellbeing, as well as that of those around them.
- Emotional Wellbeing: We encourage an environment where mental and emotional health is a priority. If you feel overwhelmed or need support, do not hesitate to speak with someone you trust or with the organising team.
- Personal Hygiene: Please maintain good personal hygiene so that everyone can enjoy a pleasant dance experience. Bring extra clothing, towels, or deodorant if needed.
- Boundaries Within Dance: The closeness and intimacy created during dance should be respectful and does not need to extend beyond that context without mutual consent.
- Unsolicited Feedback: Corrections, comments, or feedback about another person’s dancing are not welcome unless explicitly requested.
- Measures Against Inappropriate Behaviour: The organisation reserves the right to take whatever measures are necessary, including removal from the event and classes, in order to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
