Harmony Fusion Dance Weekend

3 days of dance, nature and connection.

This cozy weekend event will take place on 2-5 August 2024 in Poręba Wielka, Poland. The location is approx. 60 km from Cracow (1h journey), with its well-connected airport Balice and is accessible by public transport. If you are coming from far away, this event is perfect to combine with visiting the famous historical city of Cracow.

Join us to enjoy three days of dancing, connections and relaxing in the beautiful Polish mountains. This is an all-inclusive weekend in a comfortable hostel offering small rooms with private bathrooms. You will be able to fully enjoy all of the activities and not worry about preparing meals or doing the dishes. The hostel is located 200m from the entrance to the Gorce National Park and 50m from Gorce thermal pools.

The small size of the group and a programme leaving space for semi-formal skills exchanges, relaxed time and nature exploration will guarantee a familiar ambience.

The price includes

• 3 open-level dance workshops,
• 3 social dance evenings with music played by DJs from across Europe,
• 3 nights in a hostel,
• 3 meals per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner),
• Time dedicated to relaxed activities such as a walk in the Gorce National Park, a picnic with social dancing.

20h - informal gathering in Kraków. For those, who would like to arrive earlier to visit the city. It will allow the participants to get to know each other and perhaps arrange travel together.

• Alena Bialova - instructor of historical dance, cross-step waltz, balfolk and universal dance skills. Tango, blues and fusion dancer. Kraków.
  Workshop description: "The physics and lyricism of turning"
  In this workshop we will learn about how turning works! You will understand solo and paired turns, slow and fast. You will learn how to turn and spin safely for yourself and other dancers. And during the practical part we will practice how you can control your body and your partners while spinning!
• Agnieszka Pietruczuk - a forro dancer, contemporary dance instructor and capoeirista, Brussels.
  Workshop description: "Connecting with your body and connecting with your partner"
  In this workshop, we will explore the connections within our own bodies, discover the various qualities of movement they facilitate, engage in non-verbal communication with our dance partners, and develop sensitivity and responsiveness in partnering work. Get ready to make friends with the floor by wearing comfortable clothes!
• Justyna Pietrzak - a choreographer and a contemporary dance teacher, west coast swing dancer, Kraków
  Workshop description: "I am myself inside the frame"
  Join me on an connection experiment and learn how to create a character and express it solo while never break the frame. Connect with your partner on higher levels - create a compatible dancing dialogue.

How to get there?

Poręba Wielka can be accessed by public transport. There are 3 buses per day from Krakow. The organizers will also facilitate and encourage carpooling, when suitable. In case a considerable number of participants expresses a need for support to arrange travel, we will consider arranging a mini-bus, which could transfer participants to the venue.

Accommodation

Rooms are between 2-5 people, all with bathrooms. 3 meals per day are provided, all vegetarian. Buffet breakfast and supper, lunch served at the tables. If you are coming in a group of between 3-5 people, you can let us know and we will try to assign you to the same room. Otherwise, first come, first chooses the room.

What is fusion?

Fusion is a dance style focused on connection and interpreting the music together. We dance to a huge variety of music: sometimes music associated with a particular dance style, sometimes electronic music, sometimes hip-hop, and sometimes something entirely different—depending on the DJ.

There are dancers coming with very different backgrounds: from blues, kizomba, zouk, tango, or contact improvisation. Each dance is different, and you can always expect to see something new.

It’s a great dance for beginners as well: you don’t need experience in dancing. You can attend without anxiety and connect to the music as well as your partner—and dance as you feel. Besides that, we will have open level classes to help you start.

Code of conduct

Respect each other and be aware that everyone has a different perception of limits: better err on the side of being too polite and too respectful. Please talk to each other: ask for permission and tell people if they do something you are not OK with.

If someone is repeatedly disrespecting your limits, please talk to the care team or the organizers.

• Don't assume what role you’ll take in the dance; whether you lead, follow, or switch is up to you and your partner.
• Check in with your partner about what kind of dance they would like, including whether they feel comfortable with close embraces or being dipped.
• Welcome everyone, embracing queerness and all types of bodies.t
• If you don’t want to dance with someone—just decline. You don’t have to provide justification nor promise a dance later.
• You are welcome to ask anyone to dance. Be comfortable hearing no from time to time.
• If someone repeatedly declines to dance with you—take a hint, and stop asking them.

In case anything uncomfortable happens to you, or you witness anything that concerns you, please get in contact with your care team or the organizers.

Note! If you have ever been banned from any dance community or event, please contact the organizer before purchasing your ticket. We want to make sure everybody feels safe—and we would need to double-check if we can have you at the event. Failure to notify us can result in your being banned from the event.

Terms and conditions

Cancelations

If a dancer cannot participate in the event, the refund is not possible. You can sell your ticket to another person you find, and transfer the ticket to their name.

If the event is canceled, the organizer will return the ticket price, minus ticket platform fee. The organization does not take responsibility for festival relate costs such as travel or accommodation.

Program changes

Some changes to program can happen due to circumstances outside our control. Please check the website to learn about changes.

Photos and videos

The event takes place in a public space, and we will take photos & videos to use for documenting the event and promote future events. If you have an issue with appearing in the pictures or videos, please let us know in advance, and let know the event photographer.

This event follows a Fusion Gathering in April last year and Valencia Fusion Exchange in Spain.
