For beginners who want an accessible, clear, and guided introduction to Contact Improvisation (CI). For CI dancers who wish to enrich their physical language and presence.

This workshop series is dedicated to the foundations of contact improvisation. We will learn how to give and receive weight, feel our partner, and safely enter, hold, and exit contact. Contact improvisation is about relationships with others, listening, offering, supporting, and being yourself with others.

We will explore principles such as:

– Giving/receiving weight

– Supports and lifts

– Balance and Counterbalance

– Synchronicity and Autonomy

– Body Contact and Contact Through Space

Workshop 1 by Dima

We will learn:

Listening and Offering (Little Dance)

How to maintain attention on your partner and remain attentive.

Through a simple exercise, we will learn to sense our partner’s movement and connect with them. We will learn to prolong momentum and feel the flow of the fall.

Weight Transfer

We will learn how to give/receive weight to our partner without fear and learn to accept as much as we need from our partner. How to support and feel the rhythm and space

Workshop 2 by Agnieszka

  • Playing with counterbalance

Exploring counterbalance through pull dynamics is a straightforward way to bring more variety and fun into dancing. We’ll use gentle, steady pulls as a starting point to discover fresh ways of moving together and take advantage of shifts in momentum.
