Body Awareness and Improvisation: A Dance Workshop Series
Brussels, 22 February – 24 May 2025
This workshop series is designed for anyone seeking to deepen their body awareness, expand their dance vocabulary, and enhance their improvisational skills.
Through a blend of diverse movement practices, the sessions incorporate elements from Body-Mind Centering®, contemporary dance techniques, partnered dances, relaxation practices, mindfulness and structured improvisation.
For whom?
These workshops are developed for:
– Dancers of any style, who want to deepen their improvisational skills and explore new techniques, including dancers of hip hop, Latin and social dances, folk, fusion, contemporary etc.
– Physical theatre practitioners who want to develop their physical expressiveness and connection with movement beyond the stage.
– Beginner and advanced dancers who want to explore and feel confident with improvisation.
– Anyone aiming to connect with their body and find inner balance through dance.
The workshops are welcoming and judgment-free, focusing on personal growth in movement, confidence, and the joy of dancing. They prioritize exploration and self-expression over perfecting techniques or aesthetics and provide a supportive and non-competitive space, making them equally welcoming for those discovering dance and those looking to deepen their practice.
Workshop Approach
Each session begins with an introduction to key techniques, which are then integrated into structured improvisation exercises. Participants use these techniques as tools to explore their bodies, cultivate creativity, and develop their unique dance style.
The series is thoughtfully designed to progress over time, building on previous concepts. However, each workshop is a self-contained experience, allowing participants to attend as many—or as few—as they wish.
This is an opportunity to explore movement in a supportive and enriching environment. The sessions are open-ended, offering beginners the freedom to explore movement at their own pace while providing experienced dancers the opportunity to deepen their creativity and practice more complex moves.
Please wear comfortable clothing for movement, and note that some exercises will be done barefoot, while for others, you may want to bring a pair of flat shoes to change into.
